Overview
To increase awareness of occupational stress, compassion fatigue, secondary trauma and vicarious trauma for those working in the helping professions, identifying the related impact on workers professionally and personally and learning ways to minimize the effects of exposure to ongoing trauma.
Learning oUTCOMES
Self-assess their own level of compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue through a Professional Quality of Life Inventory
Increase their knowledge and awareness of the impact of working with people in crisis on professional and personal levels
Understand the causes and symptoms of stress, trauma, secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue
Learn a variety of positive coping strategies and techniques to prevent burn-out and develop some specific strategies on a personal level as well as an organizational level to create a culture of wellness in the face of difficult work
Note: these goals will be met through a variety of learning experiences during the day: didactic training presentations; interactive discussion; experiential learning activities, including equine-assisted learning activities.
